Blog #16 7 Filmmaker Tasks I used to do that have been replaced by A.I.
The year is 2025 and artifical intelligence is here… nearly.
With OpenAI’s Chat GPT and many other forms of software using artificial intelligence freely available, the way I do things is rapidly evolving with no end in sight. Many of the menial tasks I didn’t enjoy doing, I no longer have to do because I can ask Chat GPT to do them for me. In this post, I am compiling a list of all the ways in which A.I. has made my workflow faster and easier. It’s amazing to think how different things used to be only a short time ago.
Business invoices - this is one way in which artificial intelligence has saved me hours of work. Writing up an invoice for a customer that’s formatted and has all the important details? No need, just ask Chat GPT “make me an invoice as a business“. The result has always been satisfactory for me, including legal details that cover my ass that I never would have thought of otherwise. Of course, I still need to punch in my bank details, address, etc. but that’s the easy part.
Business proposals - I wrote a business proposal this morning using Chat GPT. I simply copy and pasted a message I received about a project and asked it to create a short proposal. Then, I took out a few things to simplify it and BAM!, I was done. I also changed the font to Times New Roman because I didn’t want to be obvious about the fact. Of course, now we all know if something is created in Chat GPT and our feelings are hurt, when we realise that someone used A.I. to connect with us.
Scriptwriting/voiceover - yes I’ll admit I have used it for filmmaking. But only because I needed to! I did a project this year where we went round to schools in Offaly and made “mini-movies“ with 3 schools over 2 days each. Naturally, after the first day of a shoot, I had very little time to write a voiceover overnight for a film we had just created that same day, so I went to my friend (OpenAI) and asked them to write a voiceover on a given topic. And it did a great job. Scary good. We’ve all had that moment when we realise that artificial intelligence did a better job than us at a task and we question our purpose if we can’t compete with lines of computer code… I don’t have a good answer to it, maybe the machines are just simply more capable and effective.
On my business website - do you think I wrote this?
“At Newtown Productions, our mission is to deliver high-quality video content that tells compelling stories, connects with audiences, and drives results for our clients. Through our passion, we aim to be a trusted partner in the evolving world of media and create special impacts on every project we undertake.”
Spoiler alert - I didn’t. I’ve used artificial intelligence to write all sorts of waffle and it is widely accepted as usable business language now.
On risk assessment forms - this is my favourite use because I hate risk assessment. Chat GPT was not only kind enough to give me risks to write down but even filled out the whole risk assessment table for me. In the end, the form wasn’t even needed but it’s nice not to have to do stuff like that.
Generating captions - I used this feature in Davinci Resolve. It is very handy to be able to generate text from speech that I can overlay onto a short Tiktok. People find text engaging and useful when consuming content because it adds an extra layer of clarity to a video that you can’t get with only sound there.
Application forms - whenever I apply these days to a training event or work-related excursion that requires a submission, I always ask Chat GPT to help out and it never disappoints. Why wouldn’t I? The software writes the reasons out way better and more precisely than I could. It must be a headache for them on the receiving end though because I guess everyone does it now!

Those are the ways in which I’ve used A.I. to enhance my workflow. It has been a godsend for me, completely removing the misery out of the more arbitrary tasks. I’m sure in 5 years, things will be more advanced and efficient again, completely reworking the way in which we live.

Good luck out there.
